Who are these guys?
These guys are the members of Hope Lutheran Church in Portage. Most of our group is from Portage. Some are new. Some have grown up at Hope. We love meeting new people, gathering for worship, hearing the Bible together, looking for ways to serve and make a difference. We’re regular folks from the area. Some of us are your neighbors and maybe even your friends. We’re pulling together in the work, because we feel that we have something special to share with one another and with our communities.
We come from all walks of life. Currently there are young parents with babies, middle-aged families with teens; a steelworker, an electrician, a court reporter, homemakers, all brought together by a single, precious gift that we didn’t deserve.
Who are these guys? We are people who have heard God’s promises, especially those great words of the Bible that say, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” We’re together, because God forgave us every failing, every wrongdoing, every selfish thought for Jesus’ sake. We’re together, because God loves us and calls us His own dear children. We’re who we are, because God gives us the faith to believe Him and then strengthens that faith by means of His Word, the Bible, so that we’re ready for this life and the next.
Now that doesn’t mean we’re Bible-thumpers or Jesus freaks. We’re not here to force anyone to think the way we do. After all, God didn’t force us to believe Him either. But we are on a mission. We want everyone to hear about the depth of God’s love and faithfulness toward us. We hope they’ll come to know the unshakeable peace and joy of our Savior, Jesus.
